Some of you have probably noticed the little word counters on the sidebar of my blog. So, allow me to explain.
The Real Me
One counter marks the current word count of a book I’m working on (The Real Me); subscribers to my newsletter already got a mini-scoop on this project over the holidays. For the rest of you, I’ll just go ahead and say this—it’s a major work in progress.
This is a project I started a few months ago. Once I finished the first draft, I printed it and tucked it away in an office drawer. It’s been three weeks since I’ve looked at it (and I plan to keep my distance for at least another month). I want to come back to this manuscript with a fresh set of eyes.
This is one I can’t rush. It needs a lot of time and molding before it’s ready to see the light of day. So, bear with me. I’ll keep you guys updated on things as I edit and get closer to publication.
Just a Little… something?
No, that’s not a title. But it sums up what I’m feeling right now about the series. There’s something more to write… something more to come… something left to say, dang it!
Yes, you’re reading that correctly.
I’m not done.
Julie and Luke are making a comeback. Now, be aware that I haven’t decided exactly how they’re coming back (novelettes, novellas, or even a novel), and I have no clue how many will follow the fourth (maybe one, maybe four (but probably not four)). All I really know right now is that our Oakland friends are hanging around for a little while longer. I firmly believe there’s still a story to tell. I just needed a little motivation
Now, I understand the mixed emotions this will cause. I encountered a group of readers who loved following the story as it unfolded—some, who I wholeheartedly believe will be with me until the bitter end. And then there were others who just wanted me to write the end—quit drawing it out, already!—and get it over with. I sincerely understand both perspectives. But no matter which group you fall in, I hope you will understand the need for this change and join me in the journey.
As with The Real Me, I will certainly keep you updated on changes as they develop.
Until we meet again, my friends!
XOXO

I say write more, if that’s what your heart is telling you to do. I needed a break from Sandpaper Fidelity and thought I was done, to be quite honest, and then one day I felt compelled to sit down and write “just one more” issue. Now I’m looking at writing another twelve after this arc. If the ideas and passion is there, I think we’re supposed to take that as a cue and keep writing.
My novel, If Juliet’s Father was a Nazi, is one of those hard ones, too. I haven’t even finished the second first draft—don’t ask, sigh!—and I know it’s going to take me a while to get it done. It will, though, and I think it’ll be either my second or third novel to be published. I just need time and determination. We can do it!
Liz,
Honestly, I’m glad you took a break with SF (especially if that’s what you felt you needed to do). It’s easy to forget sometimes that we’re only human. Writers need breaks too! With that being said, I’m pretty darn excited about the next installment!
Best of luck with your novel. I definitely understand
Yes, time and determination!
Just keep swimming
Yes. You should so totally write a fifth just a little…..
